A Thirty-Minute Walk, An All-day Adventure or More.

A visit to the Path of Life Garden is flexible. For some visitors it’s a chance to stretch their legs after a lunch and tasting tour at the Harpoon Brewery. Others may combine a visit with the Simon Pearce Glass Works and Pottery tours.

For a lovely afternoon of adventure and relaxation, rent a kayak at the Garden from Still River Outfitters. They transport visitors upriver and send them paddling down to a landing at the Path of Life Garden’s frontage on the Connecticut River.

Still others will bring a picnic and make the Path of Life Garden the destination for the day – fully exploring both the built environment as well as rich ecosystem that includes a bald eagle who shows up periodically. The relaxed and beautiful atmosphere makes for a great family outing.

It is especially fitting that the garden features installations of three dimensional artwork since the beauty of this part of the Connecticut River Valley has inspired a whole colony of artists and sculptors.

Beginning in 1885 with the arrival of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the Windsor, Vermont – Cornish, New Hampshire area (connected by the nation’s longest covered bridge) became the home for an active colony of more than 100 artists and sculptors including Maxfield Parrish, Daniel Chester French (The Minute Man and the Lincoln Memorial), James Earle Fraser (End of the Trail and the U.S. buffalo nickel), Paul Manship (Rockefeller Center’s Prometheus), and William Zorach (Radio City Music Hall’s Spirit of the Dance.)

Visitors to Windsor can look back at this remarkable period at the Cornish Colony Museum and then contemplate the sculpture of today as the Path of Life Garden presents the works of sculptors Ria Blaas and Herb Ferris this summer.

Making the Path of Life Garden and the Windsor Area a multi-day destination gives visitors a chance to see the American Precision Museum, the Coolidge Birthplace, Billings Farm & Museum, The Vermont Institute of Natural Science’s Nature Center and much more including shopping in Woodstock and Quechee, Vermont and West Lebanon, New Hampshire.

The Path of Life Garden is conveniently located on Vt. Route 5 just off Interstate 91 (exit 9) approximately 52 miles north of Brattleboro.
